The North Carolina Healthcare Engineers Association (NCHEA) is the premier professional organization dedicated to advancing healthcare facility management and engineering throughout North Carolina. Founded in 1952 and a Platinum Chapter of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, NCHEA brings together an elite community of healthcare facility managers, engineers, vendors, architects, and industry specialists who are committed to maintaining the critical infrastructure that supports exceptional patient care.
With over seven decades of proven leadership, NCHEA stands as the definitive resource for professionals navigating the complex, rapidly evolving landscape of healthcare facilities management. We don't just keep pace with change—we lead it.
NCHEA exists to elevate the healthcare engineering profession through comprehensive education, strategic networking, and unwavering commitment to professional excellence. In an industry where federal regulations shift constantly, technological advances emerge daily, and patient safety standards continue to intensify, NCHEA provides the critical foundation healthcare engineers need to excel.
Through our strategic partnership with the North Carolina Community College System, NCHEA has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students pursuing careers in healthcare engineering. We support future professionals in electrical engineering, architecture technology, HVAC technology and certification, and related fields—ensuring North Carolina's healthcare facilities will be managed by the most qualified professionals for generations to come.
NCHEA's Certified Healthcare Engineer (CHE) and Senior Healthcare Engineer (Sr.HE) designations represent the gold standard in healthcare engineering credentials. These certifications require demonstrated excellence in formal education, industry experience, professional recommendations, active NCHEA involvement, and ongoing continuing education commitment.
The Sr.HE designation goes even further, requiring CHE certification plus additional extensive industry experience and proven leadership service within NCHEA. Both certifications signal to employers and peers your unwavering Commitment to Exceptional Standards in this demanding profession.
